Three New Projects Endorsed at 8th Meeting of APMP DEC
Three new projects have been approved by the Asia Pacific Metrology Programmefs (APMP) Developing Economies Committee (DEC) at the DECfs eighth meeting on 12 Apr 2004 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The new projects are:
- A Technical Committee for Quantity of Material (TCQM) gWorkshop on the Outcomes of the APMP.QM-P2 Comparison on the Ability to Measure Cadmium Levels in Riceh, to be coordinated by National Analytical Reference Laboratory-Australian Government Analytical Laboratories (NARL-AGAL), Australia
- A mass comparison at the E2 level, to be piloted by Vietnam Metrology Institute (VMI), Vietnam, with support from Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany, and National Measurement Laboratory (NML), Australia
? The initiation of two new comparisons, one involving gauge blocks at the pilot laboratory, Kalibrasi Instrumentasi Metrologi ? Lembaga Ilmu Pengetanhuan Indonesia (KIM-LIPI), Indonesia, and the other digital multimeters at the pilot laboratory, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), India

At the meeting, DEC members discussed the application of funds from the approved Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) project on comparison programmes for developing APEC economies. The priorities identified by the DEC were tabled by the APMP Secretariat for endorsement at the forthcoming meeting of APMP Technical Committee Chairs in May 2004 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ms Ajchara Charoensook from National Institute of Metrology Thailand (NIMT), Thailand, informed the Committee that the DEC temperature comparison project, supported by PTB and NML, is underway. A workshop was held in February 2004 in Bangkok to initiate the project, and artifacts are currently in circulation among participating laboratories.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam as well as the APMP Chairman and Secretariat.
