    NEW TECHNICAL COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS

    Dr.Sojun Sato Dr. Sojun Sato
Technical Committee for Acoustic, Ultrasound and Vibration (TCAUV) Chair

Dr Sojun Sato, Head of the Acoustics and Vibration Metrology Division, National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), received his PhD in Electronics Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1975. An expert in the areas of acoustical and ultrasonic measurement, Dr Satofs recent research interests are measurement technologies for the acoustical field by using optical methods. He is active on working group for measurement microphones of IEC/TC 29 (Electroacoustics) and the related domestic committees. Dr Sato is also a member of the Consultative Committee for Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration (CCAUV).

    Dr. Xu Gan
Technical Committee for Photometry and Radiometry (TCPR) Chair

Dr Xu Gan is the Head of the Optical and Length Metrology Department of the National Metrology Centre of SPRING Singapore (Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board). He received his MSc and PhD degrees in laser physics from the University of Manchester in 1981 and 1983 respectively. Since joining SPRING Singapore in 1991, he has been responsible for the establishment of Singaporefs national measurement standards and facilities for photometry, radiometry, spectrophotometry and colorimetry under the Optical Radiation Metrology Programme. He was also actively involved in work related to the applications of laser interferometry and laser frequency standards.

Dr Xu has been the Singapore representative to the Consultative Committee for Photometry and Radiometry (CCPR) since 1999. He is a member of CIE (International Commission on Illumination). He is also a technical assessor for the Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme. His recent research interest and publications are mainly in the field of UV radiometry.

    Dr.Mark Baallico Dr. Mark Ballico
Technical Committee for Thermometry (TCT) Chair

Dr Ballico is the group leader for National Measurement Laboratory, Australiafs (NML) eThermometryf and eRadiometry and Photometryf groups. After completing a PhD in plasma physics at Sydney University in 1990, he worked for three and a half years on stellarator nuclear fusion in Germany. He joined the radiation thermometry section of NML in 1993, initially working on ray tracing modeling of high temperature blackbodies and thermoluminescence, before moving to the design and modeling of high temperature fixed points, including metal-carbide eutectics.

He represents NML on the Consultative Committee for Thermometry (CCT) and Consultative Committee on Photometry and Radiometry (CCPR), and is a member of CCT working groups 3, 5 and 8 and CCPR Working Group on Key Comparisons (WGKC). Since 2002, he has been the chairman of the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA, Australia) advisory committee for heat and temperature. His main research interests are in high temperature radiation thermometry and he is presently working to link NMLfs research activities in thermometry and radiometry in a project to develop a thermodynamically-based temperature scale linked, via a cryogenic radiometer, to electrical and length standards, and linking radiometric based heat flux and spectral irradiance scales with thermometric based scales
