New Delhi, India | 22–29 November 2024

The 40th APMP General Assembly (GA) and Related Meetings took place from 22 to 29 November 2024 in New Delhi, India. The event was hosted by CSIR-NPLI and held in a hybrid format, allowing more than 300 participants from 33 economies to join either in person or online. The hybrid setting improved access and enabled broader participation across the region.

Alongside the GA, a series of committee meetings and workshops were organized. These included the Executive Committee (EC) meeting, the Technical Committee Chairs’ Workshop, the EC and Committee Chairs (EC-CC) meeting, and the APMP NMI Directors’ Workshop. All 12 Technical Committees (TCs), the Developing Economies Committee (DEC), three Focus Groups (FGs), and the APMP-APAC Proficiency Testing Working Group (PTWG) also held sessions, including a symposium on quantum technology, which drew strong interest from member economies.

The GA covered a wide range of decisions. Among them were the following updates related to leadership and programs.
Dr. Gregory Goh (NMC A*STAR, Singapore) was elected as the next APMP Chairperson, with his three-year term set to begin at the 2025 GA. Dr. Akoshima Megumi (NMIJ, Japan) was elected as a new EC member, also for a three-year term. In addition, the GA formally acknowledged the contributions of the MEDEA 3.0 program, implemented by PTB to support metrology capacity building in developing economies across the Asia-Pacific region. On behalf of the PTB President, Mr. Uwe Meissner delivered a letter of appreciation to the APMP Chairperson, recognizing years of close collaboration under the MEDEA initiative.

The APMP NMI Directors’ Workshop on 27 November focused on hydrogen technologies. Dr. Furutani Hirohide from the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute (FREA), AIST, Japan, gave a keynote titled “Research and Development of Hydrogen Technology Aiming for Carbon Neutrality.” Presented online, the talk provided a clear overview of Japan’s efforts in hydrogen R&D and emphasized the role of metrology in supporting these developments.

Recognition of individual contributions took place during the APMP Dinner on 27 November. Dr. Guangzhen Xing (NIM, China) received the 2024 APMP Young Metrologist Prize for his research activities and participation in developing international standards. Dr. Charun Yafa (NIMT, Thailand) received the 2024 APMP Award for Developing Economies for his long-term involvement in capacity building through the MEDEA program.
In addition, two EC members, six TC Chairs, and three FG Chairs received Technical Service Awards in recognition of their completed terms and contributions to APMP’s work.

The 2024 GA was made possible thanks to the continued efforts of many APMP members. In the years ahead, APMP will focus on fostering cooperation, sharing practical experience, and responding to new challenges in areas such as quantum technologies and sustainable energy. Our members will continue to contribute to robust initiatives that strengthen measurement science and its relevance in everyday applications.
