Greetings from the APMP Chairperson 2025
Dear APMP Colleagues and Friends,
We can agree that we are living through a time of profound change – from rapid technological advancements and the pressing impacts of climate change to fundamental shifts in the way we live and work. Although these changes can at times feel overwhelming, they also present an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reimagine our collective path forward.
This year, we celebrate a remarkable milestone – the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention, which took place on 20 May 1875. This historic agreement laid the foundation for the international measurement system we rely on today, and so we are reminded of how far we have come and how important our work continues to be.
From those early days to the present, metrology has been an essential key for innovation enabling scientific progress and fostering global cooperation. As we look to the future, the need for accurate and trustworthy standards has never been greater. While we cannot predict what the world will look like a century from now, we must begin preparing today by establishing standards that will serve as the bedrock for the next 150 years.
As the 2024 General Assembly in New Delhi, India, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to scientific excellence and international cooperation. The discussions and decisions we made at the General Assembly have already yielded positive results, strengthening our collective direction and reinforcing our readiness for the future.
I am already looking forward to gathering again at the Mid-Year Meeting in Hsinchu, Chinese Taipei, from June 16 to 20, 2025. This will be a valuable opportunity to share insights, strengthen partnerships, and explore how APMP can continue to provide guidance and leadership in a rapidly changing global landscape.
With the winds of change in the forecast, standards have never been more important. Through collaboration and common purpose, we can ensure that measurement science remains a cornerstone of progress for generations to come.
With your continued support and active engagement, APMP can carry forward its mission with strength and purpose. Let us uphold the legacy of those who came before us by setting the standard for the generations ahead.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Hyun-Min Park
