APMP DEC Workshop on Measurement Comparison

On December 16 – 17, 2024, the National Measurement Standards – National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (SNSU-BSN), in collaboration with Asia Pacific Metrology Programme Developing Economies Committee (APMP DEC) and the APMP Technical Committee for Length (APMP TCL), hosted a workshop titled “APMP DEC Workshop on Measurement Comparison.” Held in a hybrid format, the event aimed to strengthen the capabilities of DEC member economies in preparing and conducting measurement comparisons within the APMP framework.

The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Y. K. Widiwardono, Deputy Chairman of SNSU-BSN, and Mr. S.D.I. Dias, the DEC Chair. A total of 94 participants from 14 National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) attended, underscoring the strong interest in regional commitment to enhancing metrological collaboration and competence.

A highlight of the event was the keynote presentation by Dr. Chu-Shik Kang from KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science). Dr. Kang provided in-depth insights into measurement comparisons under the CIPM MRA. His session covered essential topics such as preparing a comparison protocol, managing APMP Comparisons in the field of length, the responsibilities of a pilot laboratory, and drafting comprehensive comparison reports.

Participants also gained hands-on knowledge in analysing comparison results, particularly within the length measurement. The workshop emphasized the crucial role that measurement comparisons play in ensuring global measurement equivalence.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants highlighted the success and relevance of the workshop, especially given the lack of similar capacity-building workshops available, either virtually or in person. A supplementary comparison is now being planned as a direct follow up to the workshop, promising to further build on the momentum and collaboration established during the event.
